Overview

Second year students pitched their ideas to a panel from Veolia, New West End Company and Westminster Council. The winning design "The Giving Bear" by Ellice Thatcher was then constructed and fabricated by a team of students from Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI) from waste milk cartons supplied by Veolia and collected by the students locally.

The bear was installed with tap technology on 9th December in Mount Street Gardens for a month, and was the highest grossing collection point in Westminster.

"It has been an uphill battle to get here but we've finally made it! I hope like me yourselves and the students feel as if all the blood, sweat and tears put into bringing the bear to life was worth it and I hope all the students are extremely proud of themselves! Please do thank them on our behalf for all their hard work"

Jeyda Keski, Westminster Education, Communications and Outreach Manager at Veolia UK
