Riverside Walk

It all started when…

Having completed projects together in the past, Riverside Walk, managed by Canadian & Portland, approached us with a brief to do an original animation.

The brief was to showcase Kingston, its history, and the vibrant community.

The artist chosen was Jadwiga Ligeza, a Kingston BA Illustration Animation graduate who single handedly created the concept, storyboard, then illustrated the animation, cut out the paper pieces, photographed them, edited them, and then created the sound score.

The result is a 2 minute stop-motion animation titled Kingston in Frames. You can view it on the amazing 11 meter-long Undercroft screen in Kingston on evenings, freely accessible to the public.

The animation is heavily inspired from the work of Eadward Muybridge, a local figure who developed some of the earliest animation techniques. Jadwiga pays homage to his style while showcasing other typical Kingston sights: The Thames, Kingston bridge and riverboats, Richmond park and its deer, and the Kingston Marketplace.
